Pendants lights have endless design possibilities to fit any kitchen lighting idea in style from retro, to modern, to whimsical. Pendent lights are task lighting, and are usually placed over an island, peninsula, bar, or sometimes sink. Pendants are a good way to add a little color, or flare to a kitchen. The hand blown glass pendants get quite colorful.

Pendants come in regular voltage and low voltage, and come in all the different bulb types. The low voltage pendants can be individual, or hang from a track like track lighting. See the light bulb page for a break down of the different types of bulbs and what is best used in different situations. Led pendants are becoming more available and don't get finger burning hot like a halogen, and the bulbs last and last.

A Pendant lighting idea design tip would be to hang the pendents between 30" and 40" above the counter top. Another would be to provide a pendant light per person, say that could sit along a peninsula, (see picture below).

A good pendant light can provide a design eye piece that adds a great deal to the over all look of a kitchens design. Pendants are the creative part of a kitchen lighting design so be creative.

Chandeliers usually are used over the dining room table, and of course come in any style from gaudy to simple. Chandeliers can look good over an island as well, (see picture below).
