| Recessed Can Lighting Spacing |
|
How much is too much, or too little when it comes to recessed can lighting. There is a big difference in the spacing of can lighting for the different sizes. The biggest size of can light is a 8", then the 6" and then 5",4", and 3". I personally don't use the 8" recessed can very often. I use mostly the 6" for utility lighting, and the 4" for more designerish spots like in soffits or around cabinets. If you don't want a lot of cans around then use the 8" ones and space them out. As far as spacing recessed can lighting there are variables like what size and type of bulb, but let us keep this simple. An easy rule I use is the size of the recessed can in inches is the distance between them in feet. For instance a 6" can would be spaced apart in either direction by 6'. 2' apart for a 6" recessed can light would be overwhelming, and 8' apart would be a little sparse. This spacing rule is a rough guide because really anything goes in different situations, I'm sure your electrician would have some good spacing suggestions.
